London (Outer Zones) Mobile Vet Jobs

In-home Euthanasia & Palliative Care Vets Required

Are you a compassionate veterinarian who enjoys helping elderly pets at the end of their lives?

Are you empathetic and capable of supporting families as they say goodbye to their beloved pets for the last time?

Do you generally appreciate stability and clear processes but can be adaptable and think on your feet when needed?

Do you enjoy forming relationships and would be happy to visit practices to teach them about the benefits of hospice care?

If so, please read on.

The Role – Make a Huge Impact, Without Burning Out

The work of a palliative care vet differs significantly from a role in general practice. Firstly, we are a mobile practice, so we perform all of our work in clients’ homes. Secondly, we only treat terminally ill pets. This means palliative care and euthanasia form the bulk of our work, with approximately 90% of cases involving euthanasia. As you likely know, performing this well is one of the most impactful things we do. Clients are hugely appreciative and thankful for our work.

We perform euthanasia, but what we really enable is families to grieve in a way that allows them to find peace and cherish the happy memories they shared with their pets. We accomplish this in two ways: firstly, by making the process as peaceful as possible, and secondly, by taking the time to listen and work with families to make decisions together. Sometimes it feels a little like being a counsellor. Though we are not, the ability to listen, suspend judgement, and show empathy are all crucial skills.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Delivering an outstanding end-of-life clinical experience for both pets and their families. You will have an average of three appointments per day.

  • Developing relationships with local practices by visiting them and delivering “lunch and learn” sessions to help improve in-clinic palliative care. (Practices greatly value the CPD we provide.)

  • Managing your administration, including drug handling, medical notes, and client communications.

This Role Requires You to:

  • Drive and spend a significant amount of time in your car each day.

  • Handle after-appointment body care independently.

  • Work autonomously, as appointments are conducted solo.

What You Won’t Be Doing:

  • Working weekends, after hours, or on call.

  • Discussing fees – that’s someone else’s job.

  • Worrying about adverse patient outcomes.

  • Rushing around, feeling overwhelmed by multiple competing demands.

Between appointments, you’ll have considerable downtime as you drive between visits.

This role is ideal for an empathetic vet who is ready to step away from the chaos of general practice. If you love helping families make big decisions, enjoy driving, and appreciate the opportunity to listen to podcasts or audiobooks on the road, this could be the perfect fit for you.

Who You Are & What You Bring

You are a veterinarian with at least two years of experience in general practice. Life as a GP vet was fine, but it felt a bit too chaotic. Now, you’re looking for something with a more predictable, manageable workload and significantly less stress – but you still want to do meaningful work that positively impacts pets and their families.

You excel in client communication; by that, we mean you are empathetic (not judgemental) and can help families make informed choices. A key part of this role is your ability to listen, understand, and communicate calmly and clearly. You’re someone people feel at ease with and trust.

At work, you like to follow processes but can adapt when needed. This skill has come in handy on occasions when you’ve had to improvise in unexpected situations. While we have a standard approach to euthanasia, we encourage families to personalise the process. Some of the most memorable experiences our vets have had include attending a Hindu ceremony, euthanising a pet by a river because it was their favourite place, and assisting a dog who loved the forest by ensuring their final moments were surrounded by flowers and tree branches. These moments are beautiful, precious, and fleeting – and you will be at the heart of them. Words cannot fully describe how that feels.

You live in or near London and enjoy spending time driving. Podcasts or audiobooks keep you entertained for hours. That might seem like an unusual detail in a job advert, but as a mobile palliative care vet, you will spend a lot of time driving to client homes for euthanasia appointments or to meet practices to raise awareness of our services.

You see euthanasia not as a sad act, but as a beautiful release that, when done right, benefits all. It is not an overwhelming emotional burden for you, and you would be comfortable performing up to three euthanasias per day – as long as it was for the right reasons.

You are also keen to help grow your area. We are in the exciting start-up phase of our journey as a practice, so the work you do to build relationships will be instrumental in expanding our reach. This involves meeting people, introducing our services, and delivering lunch & learn CPD training for local practices.

Of course, you will receive excellent training to prepare you for everything we’ve described.

Please note that we are looking for full-time vets who can work four days per week (Monday-Friday). Unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate applicants who can only offer occasional days alongside another job.

Finally, you are organised, professional, and detail-oriented. You take pride in completing the basics, such as medical notes, applying tags correctly, answering emails, and communicating promptly.

The Practice

Roundwood Pet Hospice exists to help pets live well right to the end and to leave families with enduring, happy memories. Over the next decade, we are on a mission to ensure that all pets in the UK have the opportunity to pass with dignity and love, surrounded by their families in a place where they feel safe.

We are a team who love elderly pets and are committed to ensuring they receive the care they deserve in their final moments. Our work is meaningful, and we have developed refined processes to do it exceptionally well. We also take relationships seriously and invest in them for the long term.

As a mobile practice, we don’t see each other every day, but we work hard to maintain connection using technology, and our vets have regular contact with their support team.

We are independent, ambitious, and dedicated to improving the end-of-life experience for pets. We are guided by our values: Honesty, Conscientiousness, Thoughtfulness, Teamwork, Connection, and Growth. If these values resonate with you and this kind of work appeals to you, let’s talk.
